Cleatus is an instrument repair system for precisely and accurately installing cleats.

The Cleatus Kit contains:

Cleatus allows you to perfectly install cleats using a viewing film so you can see through the wood. 

When installing cleats, it’s essential for the grain of the cleat to be perpendicular to the grain of the instrument. The cleat should also cover as much of the crack as possible. Cleatus makes this painless.

How it works…

The Cleatus Kit contains precision wood cleats, viewing film, and a placement tool.

The cleats are designed to fit perfectly within the placement tool. This allows for consistent orientation and exact location.

 

The placement tool has a standoff height that keeps the cleat away from the instrument until you’re ready to place it. This keeps glue from being smudged on the inside of the instrument. 

The placement tool creates an impression on the viewing film that moves with the device, once the impression is lined up with the crack, so is the cleat. Your cleat can be placed in the correct direction and location.

Cleatus to the rescue

I ordered these after my guitar developed a humidity crack on the top. I am confident that these will do the trick. They arrived on time and work well with magnet repairs I found on youtube.

I liked them but with the cross braces didn’t fit

The two hairline cracks on the top of the Modern Martin under the bridge were cross braced not leaving enough room for the film to work.

The Cleatus system worked perfectly! I was able to use the film and tool to place the cleat exactly over the crack after rehumidifying and gluing the crack itself. The repair was successful and feels solid thanks to the cleatus system! Thanks!!

Excellent repair choice. My only suggestion is to make the flat part on the top of the cleat a bit bigger so the repair magnets can more easily lay flat. That said, worked like a charm as is.

Hello guys, yeah good system. I have only used it once for I'm a Luthier of over 50 yrs and I have a similar system I have used since I put it together a few times over the years. As for yours, the cleats need to be a bit thicker I believe. I mfg my own cleats which are too thick for your holder so I used yours but I worry they are just a bit too thin.........many thanks!
