Introducing the Music City Bridge “Nut Slot Gauge.” This simple and effective tool ensures you achieve the lowest possible nut action while eliminating open-string buzz.
With four built-in preferences of bump up above a "zero" fret - 0.000 (in thousandths of inches), 0.003, 0.005, and 0.008, the Nut Slot Gauge easily and accurately measures your nut slots' current height, with or without strings, and unaffected by action or the truss rod setting. This helps you achieve the softest feel and also the least detuning due to grip.
How to use the Nut Slot Gauge:
- Move the string out of the slot.
- Place the measuring gauge into the slot and slide the tool toward the bridge.
- If you hear a click, then the nut is taller than the gauge.
- If you don't, the nut is lower than the gauge.

I used it on a guitar I had already set up using a digital dial gauge and got the action even lower. I set it between .008 and .005 and it works great.
I just recently recieved this and I tried it out and was not easily impressed. Im still counting on my tried and true 3rd fret fretting technique until I get the hang of this one although I did like the presentation I watched on youtube. Maybe it best used on nuts that were never filed.

I recently bought a new acoustic which I am really happy with, big sound, but I wasn’t loving how the nut slots were cut, too hard to Barr chords in the first fret, it wasn’t terrible but I knew it could be better. I was nervous about messing with them but the MCB Nut Slot Gauge seemed to take the guesswork out of it. I tried it out on an old Yamaha first and the result was great. I went over all my guitars with great results. Really glad I bought one.

Great design and idea. The only problem is when you have tinnitus like most musicians have, it is almost impossible to hear the little click. My fault not the tools!
